Golf Clubs FAQs
I’m new to golfing. What are the most important
clubs for me to have?
Even though most beginners should have as many clubs as possible, there
are a couple of clubs that are always important to have. A pitching
wedge is a great club for chip shots. A putter obviously is needed in
those situations where putting must be done. Also, a driver is a club
that is always needed. If a beginning golfer can master the use of these
three clubs, he can easily learn to use all other clubs as well.
When using irons, I am finding that I’m not getting the
lift on the ball that I would like. How do I fix this?
One of the things that most people do to when they use irons is they
try to bend their elbows so they are able to essentially scoop the ball
up and hit it high into the sky. The problem is that as soon as a golfer
bends his elbows like this, he finds that his shot does not go straight.
Irons are designed to be able to get underneath the balls. Because of
this, the irons basically do the scooping action for the golfer. By
resisting the temptation to try to get under the ball and by trusting
his clubs, a golfer can straighten up his shots with irons.
Honestly, does the kind of golf ball I use really make a difference?
The answer to this question depends on how experienced the golfer asking
the question is. For example, a new golfer can use pretty much any golf
ball and get near identical results. Because new golfers do not understand
the intricacies of golfing, all of their shots are pretty much the same.
However, pro and experienced golfers definitely can see a difference
in the kinds of golf balls they use. Some of these golf balls are harder
and are often used by golfers who want a big drive. Other balls are
softer and are often used by golfers who want to be able to put more
movement on the balls.
